Valerian Nakaar

Ph.D., Member of Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Nakaar is an accomplished biotechnology executive and scientific leader with more than two decades of experience in infectious diseases, vaccinology, and cancer immunotherapy. As CoFounder, Senior Vice President, and Chief Scientific Officer of CaroGen Corporation, he has led the development of innovative virus-like vesicle (VLV)–based vaccines and immunotherapies, securing over $16 million in federal (DOD and NIH) and CT state funding and advancing multiple programs toward clinical readiness.

Dr. Nakaar has directed R&D teams in creating vaccines from concept through GMP manufacturing and early clinical development, including major efforts in hepatitis B, universal influenza vaccines, and several viral pathogens during his tenure at VaxInnate. His leadership contributed to significant federal contracts and philanthropic funding, including support from BARDA and the Gates Foundation. A former Yale faculty member with a Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute, he is widely recognized in vaccine R&D, reflected in repeated NIH study section appointments and a strong record of scientific and translational impact.
